This all depends on the type of rubbish you are going to put in the skip bin. SO as you are deciding on the type of skip bin you need, focus on the types of waste you’ll be disposing of. Skip bins in New Zealand cater to various waste categories, each with specific requirements:

  1. General Waste: Suitable for everyday items like household rubbish, furniture, and non-hazardous materials.
  2. Green Waste: Ideal for garden waste, including grass, leaves, branches, and small tree trimmings.
  3. Hard Fill: Used for heavy materials like bricks, concrete, tiles, and stones. Perfect for construction or demolition debris.
  4. Clean Fill: Strictly for uncontaminated materials such as soil, clay, and gravel.
  5. Mixed Waste: Allows a combination of general, green, and light construction waste, but typically excludes heavy and hazardous items.

Choosing the correct skip bin ensures efficient waste management and compliance with disposal regulations. Always confirm specific restrictions with your provider.

Our general waste bins have weight limits as follow: 3m3 – 500kg, 6m3 – 1000kg, 9m3 – 1500kg. Hardfill products like bricks and soil can weigh in excess of 1000kg per cubic meter which can easily cause the bin to go overweight. Bins weighing over specified limits are charged at 20 cents per kilogram ($200 / tonne)

Our green waste bins have the same weight limits as the general waste bins. Bin weighing over the limits are charged at 12 cents per kilogram ($120/tonne)

There are no weight limits on a hardfill

Skip bins should not be any higher than level with the top edge. This is a NZTA requirement for transporting the bins safely.
